What Is Paint Correction & Do I Need It?

At 360 Express Collision & Detailing, we take pride in restoring your vehicle’s paint by creating a better-than-new finish. The focus of our paint correction services is to eliminate the imperfections, scratches and stains found in the clear coat. Using a machine polisher, we eliminate swirl marks, micro-marring, scratches, oxidation and dullness to restore the paint of the vehicle to better than new. Imperfections in your finish sadly start directly from the factory and don’t let up after that. Some common causes of paint defects are improper washing or polishing techniques, iron deposits from the factory, bird droppings, hard water spots, fine scratches and swirl marks due to automated car washes, or from harsh chemicals in the touchless automated washes.

The term paint correction can only be used if these imperfections are properly removed and are not just merely covered up or hidden with filler-based products.

Before the paint correction is started, a thorough wash and decontamination of the vehicle is required with a specialist automotive clay bar. This safely removes any bonded surface contaminants such as tar spots and industrial fallout (iron deposits).

If these contaminants are not removed before the paint correction process begins, they could become dislodged and caught on the pad of the polishing machine and inflict damage onto the surface very quickly. It also begins the process of making the surface very smooth, which in turn, allows the polishing machine to move freely over the surface, reducing the possibility of hopping or sticking. Claying also helps you to properly observe the progress of the correction process so you can see the true condition of the surface as you are working.

The polishing is usually a multistage process as a range of different grades of polish are used. During the paint correction process, our technicians use a paint depth gauge and specialty lights to ensure they do not damage the clear coat. Our knowledge and years of experience enable us to rival the best paint correction specialists in our industry.
